The Tasmanian devil now lives only in Tasmania's forests and scrub areas, though it was once widespread over mainland Australia. This carnivorous marsupial has an exaggerated reputation for ferocity. It is about 2 feet long, with a large head, and is very strong for its size, preying on animals larger than itself. Its own destruction is due to its attacks on poultry, livestock, and other mammals. The Tasmanian devil likes to bask in the sun during the day.
